HEALTHCARE IN
INDONESIA
Indonesia is one of the most economically successful countries in the world. It is already the 16th largest economy in the world and has the 3rd highest growth rate in the G20. At current rates, it will be one of the world's five largest economies by 2030. However, Indonesia's healthcare industry and the current state of health care are one of the major obstacles to realizing Indonesia's potential. There are approx. 3000 hospitals in Indonesia, slightly over 318,000 beds and 1.17 beds per 1,000 people, the lowest rate. Approximately 63% of national hospitals are privately owned, and the low number of beds reflects the increasing opportunities for foreign investors to fill the gap. Demand for medical devices is driven by the expansion of private and government hospitals and clinics and the improvement of existing facilities. Another factor behind this expected demand is the increase in non-communicable diseases that require sophisticated and high-tech equipment for diagnosis.
